Shantou lies in the southeast of Guangdong Province of China. It has the name "The Door of Eastern Guangdong, The Communication Center of Southern China". It is one of five Special Economic Zone. Shantou Port is first-class port; it is one of 20 main ports of China. It has 38 wharfs with above 5000-dwt, among them, 16 wharfs are more than 10000-dwt. Its comprehensive handling capacity is 26.21 million tons and throughput of container transportation reaches 580 thousand containers, and it now has business relations with 210 ports in more than 40 countries and regions and other large ports in China. Its land transportation is very developed, Guang-Mei-Shan Railway and Jing-Jiu Railway connect Shantou with national railway network, and Shantou becomes a important sea gate for Jing-Jiu Railway. The road system is also developed; Shen-shan and Shan-Fen Express Way connect Shantou, Shenzhen and Xiamen these 3 Special Economic Zone. The national way 324 and 206 run through the Shantou to each place of the whole country. The annual handling capacity of Shantou Airport reaches 3 million people/times, and it has opened 42 domestic and foreign airlines. The total capacity for power supply is 830 thousand kilowatt with annual power supply 3.4 billion kilowatt/hour. Shantou now has 4 water supply works with daily water supply capacity of 920 thousand tons. Shantou City also has formed the communication pattern of large-capacity digital transfer and exchanged program control and electronic business administration for fiber, microwave and satellite communication.
