Geographic
Location
Shantou FTZ lies at 116°43'E
in longitude and 23°16'N inlatitude, where the international
main sea route in the west area of Pacific Ocean passes
through. It is 179s.m apart from Hongkong and 180s.m
from Kaohsiung in Taiwan.
Climate and Geology
It is of subtropical martitime climate
averaging annually 2,000-3,000h in sunshine time, 21.3°C
in temperature, 1,514mm in precipitation and 82% in
relative humidity. So
the climate is humid temperate, neither cold in winter
nor hot in summer.
The soil consists of clay, wet sand and grit, and the
ground of grit does of coarse sand and mid-fine sand.
The texture has turned out to be of good engineering
geology.
Transportation
From Shantou Port cargo ships can
sail to about 160 ports in over 40 countries and regions,
as well the main ports of China. Eight kilometres away,
the FTZ itself has two special use wharves, one for
30,000-dwt bulk ships, the other 3,000-dwt container
ships, between which and Hongkong there is a seaway,
four back-and-forth voyages per week. Only 500 metres
away is Guangao Deep-water Port, where a 25,000-dwt
berth has been in use. We are building two 50,00-dwt
berths, which can be put into user in 2006.
The zone is 8 km away from the entrance
of Shen-Shan Express Way in Dahao three hours' drive
from Shenzhen SEZ. 12 km away is the starting station
of Guang-Mei-Shan Railway, which connects Jing-Jiu-Jiu
Railway at Longchuan and joins the national railway
network.
It is only 19 km to Shantou Airport,
where thereare more than 40 routes, domestic and international.
Both passenger and cargo transport business can be dealt
with over there. |
